Day by Day itinerary

Day 1 to 4 – Elewana Tortilis Camp, Amboseli

You wil fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Amboseli National Park where your guide from Elewana Tortilis Cam will be waiting to transfer you into camp. The drive is through the national park under the watchful eye of Mount Kilimanjaro. Tortilis Camp has magnificent views of Mt Kilimanjaro, best viewed in the morning with a good cup of Kenyan coffee.

Tortilis Camp has a prime location for witnessing the majesty of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. The camp is named after the flat-topped, umbrella thorn tree, the Acacia Tortilis, and embraces a hill in one of Amboseli’s areas of Acacia Tortilis woodland. Located in a private conservancy bordering the national park, game drives, walks, sundowners and bush meals take place both inside the national park and in the conservancy, where guests enjoy exclusivity. Each makuti-covered tent consists of a main bedroom with twin or double beds, en-suite bathroom, and a spacious verandah.

Located about a four hour drive and 250 km (150 mi) southeast of Nairobi, Amboseli National Park is well known for its herds of big tusked elephants under the imposing backdrop of the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt Kilimanjaro. The 151 km2 (58 mi2) park is a fragile ecosystem with the (usually) dry lake bed at its heart. Surrounding the lake bed and salt flats are beautiful Acacia tortillis woodland and grassy savannah that attract herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle alongside the famed elephants. It is possible to see all the predators but, being a national park, night drives are not permitted.

Activities include shared game drives in custom 4×4 vehicles, guided walks, bush breakfast and sundowners, cultural visits, a swimming pool, and an optional visit to Cynthia Moss Elephant Research Centre and School support by the Land and Life Foundation

Day 4 to 7 – Elewana Lewa Safari Camp

You will fly from Amboseli, via Nairobi to Lewa Conservancy for the next 3 nights on this luxury safari. Lewa Safari Camp has a stunning location within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, with outstanding game viewing from camp, and views of Mount Kenya to the south and the arid lowlands to the north. Each tent has a thatched roof, verandah, and full en suite bathroom, very much in the ‘Lewa’ style. The central areas have vibrant gardens filled with birds, a sunny verandah, and swimming pool to enjoy during the day, and cozy log fires in the lounge and dining room for chilly evenings.

The camp is based within the private 251 km2 wildlife conservancy, home to over 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population, and the single largest population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Lewa reinvests all the profits generated from tourism into its core programs. When you visit Lewa Safari Camp, you contribute to helping thousands of people from different backgrounds and cultures to improve their lives and give their children a future, at the same time as ensuring Africa’s wildlife has a stable home.

The Lewa Safari Camp guides are based in camp within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Most are from the neighbouring communities and have been guiding within the conservancy for many years, some for over 15 years. All the guides are first class, with Bronze or Silver level Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association certification, and they also receive training directly from the Conservancy to the “Lewa Standard.”

Lewa is a 45,000 acre private game ranch located 30 miles north of the equator at the foothills of Mt. Kenya, and is home to the world famous Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. There are very few private houses and camps on the reserve so game viewing is as exclusive as it can get. The area is probably one of the best in Africa for viewing rhinos. The reserve not only has Big 5 but the largest population of the rare Grevy’s zebra as well other rare northern species. There are many activities to engage in, including horseback riding, scenic flights, night drives, walking safaris, camel riding, and photographic hides.

Day 7 to 10 – Elephant Pepper Camp, Mara North Conservancy Masai Mara

The last stop on this luxury safari is in the game-rich, Mara North Conservancy in the Masai Mara. Elephant Pepper Camp is the perfect place to end this Kenya Safari by Elewana. Nestled under a grove of fig and pepper trees, the tents overlook the bush. Elephant Pepper Camp is one of Kenya’s original, very small and exclusive tented camps, located away from other lodges in the pristine Mara North Conservancy. For those wanting to step off the world for a while and lose themselves in unspoilt nature in the heart of the Kenyan bush, Elephant Pepper Camp is the perfect place to indulge this whim and to explore the marvels of the natural world.

Nestled in a lush thicket of Elephant Pepper trees overlooking open grasslands frequented by herds of game, Elephant Pepper Camp maintains the rustic luxury and authenticity of a traditional safari from yesteryear.

Activities include shared game drives in custom 4×4 vehicles (exclusive use available at a day rate), pre-dinner drinks around the open camp fire, night game drives, sundowners, bush breakfasts, guided bush walks (age restrictions apply to children under 16yrs). Balloon safaris (price not included and pre-booking required) and cultural visits are also possible as is an optional visit to a local school supported by Land & Life Foundation.

The 8 spacious luxury Safari Tents offer either twin or double beds, each with spacious en-suite bathroom areas. The tents have a very classy and elegant feel, combining Indian Raj Campaign furniture and dark wood with intricate brass fittings. The tents are set underneath a grove of fig and Elephant Pepper trees and are spaced out to ensure privacy. From your personal verandah or hammock you can watch wildlife roam on the savannah plains.
