The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is an integral part of the Greater Kruger Park biosphere. This 60000ha reserve was established in 1969 and is made up of privately owned land. Sharing unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and the Timbavati Game Reserve, Klaserie offers an outstanding wildlife safari experience.
Wildlife in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is varied and excellent. Lions, leopards and cheetah can be found here, along with hyenas and packs of wild dogs. Elephants and white rhino mainly, herds of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, kudu and other plains game can also be seen along with about 145 mammal species in total. There have been over 500 bird species recorded in the Klaserie, over 118 reptile species, 30 amphibians, insects and loads of tree and other flora species.
How to get to your Klaserie Safari
Located near the town and airport of Hoedspruit, Klaserie uses the same access gate as the Timbavati Game Reserve. Lodge’s range is between a 20 minute and 1 hour drive from the Hoedspruit Airport. Transfers from other lodges or airports in the Greater Kruger Park can be arranged. There is a handy daily shuttle from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport to the gate, which takes about 7 hours. It is also easy to self-drive to the Klaserie and you do not need a SUV.

Africa on Foot
Africa on Foot is home to the walking safari! Expertly led by experienced trackers and guides, walking at Africa on Foot is an immersive and incredible experience. You will walk first thing in the morning for a few hours, spend the hottest time of the day in camp perhaps one of their two splash pools, and then head out again in the late afternoon for another walk. Game drives replace the walk if the conditions are not favourable. Each of the 5 rustic chalets has either an indoor or outdoor shower. 2 chalets can sleep 4, perfect for families or 3 adults sharing. Africa on Foot also has an incredible treehouse, a sleep-out experience under the stars! The treehouse has a double bed and a simple ensuite bathroom. The camp is eco friendly and powered by solar.
nThambo Tree Camp
This is a unique safari experience! Spend your nights at nThambo Tree Camp in elevated canvas and thatch chalets, each boasting incredible views over the Klaserie. A small deck allows a private moment to enjoy the scenery while the compact ensuite bathrooms all have showers. Enjoy twice-daily game drives with the experienced team at nThambo, returning to camp in the dark which gives you the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals. Xanatseni Private Camp
Xanatseni Private Camp is a classic safari camp that offers an excellent safari experience. Xanatseni has luxury ensuite rooms that are spacious and overlook the fever trees in the garden and the waterhole beyond. There is an elevated deck in the camp that overlooks the waterhole, a great place to spend some time in the afternoons. The main area has a few lounge and sitting areas and there is a pool and fire pit area. Xanatseni has a two-bedroom family suite that doubles as a private villa with a guide and vehicle.

Simbavati Amani Camp
Charming, private villa living at Simbavati Amani Camp, in the heart of the Klaserie. With only 4 suites, this is the perfect luxury family or small group getaway. The double volume lounge, library and interactive kitchen and bar offer numerous areas to relax in. Simbavati Amani Camp has a tranquil garden with an infinity pool, a fire pit terrace and an outside dining area and all overlook a floodlit waterhole.
Simbavati Amani accommodates eight guests, in four luxury suites with king or twin beds. Each bedroom has its own private entrance onto the garden. All four suites have an en-suite bathroom and offer a double basin, bath or shower.
Simbavati Camp George
Located on the banks of a dry riverbed, Simbavati Camp George is nestled in a lush indigenous garden. Camp George is a mix of a traditional safari lodge with a modern twist, with the main areas beautifully decorated and leading out to expansive terraces. The camp has an active waterhole and it is not uncommon to while away a few hours watching animals come down to drink. Camp George offers expertly guided game drives, bush walks and night drives in the Klaserie.

Makumu Private Game Lodge is a gorgeous safari lodge in the Klaserie that boasts incredible views from almost every angle. The elevated boma area is the perfect place to relax during the day and to sit around the fire pit at night. There is a large pool to cool off in and the main areas are warm and welcoming. There is also a spa, gym and curio shop. A wonderful and fairly unusual offering is Makumu’s ground-level photographic bunker. This space offers the opportunity to be at eye level with the water to take spectacular shots of wildlife visiting the watering hole.
With just 6 suites, Makumu ensures an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy. 3 are King Suites and 3 are Impi Suites. Each set of a King and an Impi Suite is designed according to one of three African tribes – the Bushman, Ndebele and Zulu tribes of South Africa. The Last Word Kitara
Perfectly positioned on the seasonal Klaserie River, Last Word Kitara is a classic safari lodge. The main areas are beautifully decorated and have a lovely pool area that overlooks the bush and river bed. This seasonal source of water attract animals regularly and it is not uncommon to see elephants digging through the mineral-rich sand to find buried water. Activities centre around twice-daily game drives and bush walks.
Each of the 6 suites at Last Word Kitara is expansive and classic, with a private deck that offers views over the surrounding bush. Each suite has a full ensuite bathroom with an outdoor shower.
Baobab Ridge
Family run and offering a luxury, yet authentic, safari, Baobab Ridge is a lovely safari lodge to visit in the Klaserie. The main areas at Baobab Ridge have a bar and lounge area, outdoor terrace with an open-air boma area with a fireplace. The swimming pool overlooks the surrounding bush and a small waterhole. Day and night game drives are conducted with experienced guides and trackers. Bush walks are also available.
