Day by Day itinerary

Days 01 – 04 – Savuti Camp, Linyanti Concession, Savuti/Linyanti Area

The private Linyanti Concession borders the Chobe National Park and stretches over the Linyanti-Kwando river system. The game viewing is great in this part of Botswana across the woodland habitats, ancient floodplains and forests and only gets better during the dry season. The area hosts large herds of impala, blue wildebeest, giraffe and buffalo as well as the world’s highest density of elephant. Several packs of wild dog are found in the area and lion, leopard and cheetah are frequently sighted.

Savuti Camp lies along the Savuti Channel which has an unusual and sporadic water flow. It will either flow strongly or disappears entirely leaving a rich grassland. Both attract wildlife in abundance. Night drives allow for the discovery of nocturnal creatures such as civets, genets, honey badgers and spring hares. This vast, untamed wilderness is the perfect location for those seeking a unique African adventure in an exclusive and remote big game habitat. The camp has a unique log-pile hide where you can get up close to elephants and watch as they play and quench their thirst at the small water pan.

Savuti Camp is perched high on the banks of the channel offering front-row seats to amazing wildlife viewing. Each of the spacious canvas-and-thatch tents boasts full ensuite bathrooms and face the Savuti Channel with a deck to sit on and enjoy the views. From the camp’s thatched dining area, elevated wooden decks extend out over the channel bed, with a small pool, fire deck and wonderful views over the channel.

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in open 4×4’s and take a night drive with a spotlight in search of the elusive bushbaby, pangolin and other nocturnal species.

Savuti Camp is in a private concession, not the public Savuti Marsh area in the Chobe National Park. You are allowed to do night drives, go off-road, walk and even fish if there is enough water, on this private land.

You will spend 3 nights at Savuti Camp on a fully inclusive basis.

Days 04 – 07 – Jacana Camp, Jao Concession, Okavango Delta

The utterly private Jacana Camp is located in the Jao Concession in the southwest Okavango Delta. For most of the year, Jacana Camp is completely surrounded by water where activities uncover the splendours of a true aquatic Delta experience. Take a boat ride or mokoro trip through countless meandering waterways and crystal clear lagoons studded with water lilies, as well as fertile floodplains and reeded islands inhabited with abundant wildlife.

Situated in the beautiful, expansive Jao Flats, Jacana is a place where the rhythms of the arriving (and departing) annual floodwaters can be seen and felt. The year-round presence of water creates a tranquil environment shared with multitudes of birds – including sought-after ‘Okavango specials’ – and other wildlife which thrives in this unique, water-filled environment.

Each of the tents at Jacana is on a wooden deck that overlooks the floodplains, with a private deck and sitting area. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, plus a wonderful outdoor bath – perfect to soak in and enjoy the view!. The main area, sheltered beneath giant sycamore fig trees, has a dining and seating area on the mezzanine level which overlooks the views, while the lower level is home to the pool, fire pit and access to the jetty where all activities depart from.

Enjoy daily mokoro rides, boat trips, walking safaris and fishing. At certain times of the eyar, generally in the summer months, when the water levels are low enough you can also enjoy a game drive.

You will spend 3 nights on a fully inclusive basis at Jacana.

Days 07 – 10 – Chitabe Camp, Chitabe Concession, Okavango Delta

Chitabe Camp is bordered by the Moremi Game Reserve, which all but ensures some of the best game viewing in all of the Okavango Delta. The Chitabe Concession is also one of the places you could encounter the critically endangered rhinos, moved from South Africa to restock the population in the Delta. Chitabe’s location places it at the heart of a complex and beautiful mosaic of habitats. Experienced, passionate guides take you on one of the most amazing wildlife experiences in Botswana.

Each of the elevated, Meru-style tents enjoys the amazing vistas of the floodplain in front of the camp. Each tent has a private viewing deck and ensuite bathrooms that have both an indoor and outdoor shower. The main area has a beautiful bar, hewn from one large tree trunk, a fire pit boma area, a small library and a well-positioned swimming pool.

Enjoy daily game drives in search of the big 5 as well as cheetah and more. The area is well known for wild dog sightings which is a real treat. There is a secluded hide at camp where you can watch the wildlife unseen by them. Night drives take you in search of the nocturnal creatures that inhabit the Delta.

Chitabe is a strictly land-based activity camp, which combines beautifully with the water paradise of Jacana. You are also able to take a walking safari with the guides to see the smaller animals and flora of the region. The birdlife is excellent and varies throughout the year. They include African hawk-eagle, ground hornbill, scarlet-chested sunbird, red-billed hornbill, gabar goshawk and red-billed francolin.

Spend 3 nights at Chitabe Camp before flying to Maun for your onward travel.
